Question: To ask the Minister for Infrastructure (i) what consultation his Department conducted regarding the decision to close the Sydenham Bypass on 30 September to 3 October 2022, 7 to 10 October 2022, 14 to 17 October 2022 and 21 to 24 October 2022; and (ii) what were the reasons for the closure taking place at these times.
Answer:
(i) My Department carefully planned these road works and associated traffic management arrangements in order to minimise inconvenience to the public. Prior to the awarding of the contract, officials consulted with both the George Best City Airport and Belfast Harbour Estate. Further meetings were held before commencement of the works and all traffic management arrangements were publicised on social media and through partner organisations such as Belfast City Airport. (ii) There is no ideal time for works of this scale and disruption is inevitable. The works were scheduled for the weekend and overnight because this is when the traffic flow is at its lightest compared to during the week.
