Question:
To ask the Minister of Finance for an update on the work to place the powers of the Legal Services Oversight Commissioner on a statutory footing.

Answer:

The Department has maintained engagement during the past 2 years with the Legal Services Oversight Commissioner, the Law Society and Bar Council, in preparation of bringing forward the necessary legislation to implement the Legal Complaints and Regulation Act (Northern Ireland) 2016. The Commissioner has also engaged with the Lady Chief Justice.

Officials met with the Commissioner on the Assembly’s restoration earlier this month to agree next steps.
