Question:
To ask the Minister for Infrastructure what plans there are to install street lighting on the Toome bypass.

Answer:
My Department’s policy on the provision of street lighting is set out in Roads Service Policy & Procedure Guide (RSPPG) E072.
On rural motorways and trunk roads, street lighting is only provided at those roundabouts and junctions that meet this criteria and is not generally provided on the mainline.
This policy ensures that lighting is provided in those areas where maximum benefit to the public can be derived, particularly where road safety is concerned, as well as reducing environmental impacts and future maintenance and energy costs.
There are therefore no plans to install additional street lighting on the Toome By-Pass.
