Question: To ask the Minister for Infrastructure for an update on (i) the timescale for the construction of the North Belfast to South Belfast Glider route; and (ii) the likely route of this service.
Answer:
The construction of the North Belfast to South Belfast Glider route is subject to the availability of funding. The estimated cost is currently in the region of £145m and will be subject to review once the final outline business case is complete. £35m of funding has been secured through Belfast Region City Deal, however the £20m of New Deal funding that had been identified for the project has been paused, As such a considerable shortfall of £110m remains. In my previous tenure as Infrastructure Minister I announced the North to South Belfast Glider route from Carryduff in the South, along the Antrim Road to Glengormley. Officials are currently finalising feasibility studies to determine the viability of extending the routes into Glengormley and Carryduff.
