Question:
To ask the Minister of Education for an update on the further review of the longer-term aspects of recommendations contained within the fundamental review of GCSEs and A levels, which was presented to the Minister of Education in June 2013.

Answer:

Further work on developing a longer-term vision for qualifications in Northern Ireland had reached an advanced stage with a further report by the expert group chaired by Sir Norman Apsley, and additional detailed work carried out by CCEA. However, this work had to be paused in early 2020, before being presented to the then Minister, due to the need to respond to the COVID pandemic.

Officials, in conjunction with CCEA, are currently revisiting this work and updating it to take account of developments in the intervening years before making recommendations about how best to proceed.
