Question:
To ask the Minister of Education what consideration has been given to making compulsory modules on mental health and emotional support part of the Bachelor of Education programme and the Postgraduate Certificate in Education programme.

Answer:

Initial Teacher Education (ITE) providers in Northern Ireland already include mental health and emotional support in a number of their ITE modules.

The ITE providers review their programmes every year to take into account any significant changes to the educational landscape, including the Children and Young People’s Emotional Health and Wellbeing in Education Framework. This ensures student teachers continue to receive appropriate development in this important area.
