Question:
To ask the First Minister and deputy First Minister for a timescale on the erection of a memorial to victims and survivors of Historical Institutional Abuse.

Answer:

The issue of a memorial is sensitive for victims and survivors. Many of whom have different views how this should be progressed. The late Sir Anthony Hart recognised this in the Inquiry report.

Our officials have engaged with victims’ and survivors’ group representatives since March 2022 on this matter and have considered advice from the Commissioner. A cross-departmental sub-group was established to examine ways of meeting as many different views as possible. Ministers will shortly be meeting victims’ and survivors’ representative groups, and will consider all proposals to implement this recommendation.
