Question: To ask the Minister for Infrastructure whether his Department plans to fund the greenway from Ballyclare to Ballynure, which was originally part of the Doagh to Larne greenway proposal.
Answer:
The Greenway route from Doagh to Larne received a grant from my Department for a feasibility study in 2017, followed by detailed design in 2019. Greenway projects are generally council led, and responsibility for this project rests with Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council, with 50% funding available from my Department for the capital delivery of Greenways. My Department issued a significant letter of offer in March 2023 to the council for the construction of Ballyclare Town Greenway, which would link in with this overall Greenway route. Officials in my Department are working closely with councils, including Antrim and Newtownabbey Council, to better understand their 5-year greenway programme, and to develop an appropriate grant and support framework for the effective delivery of such programmes. The route between Ballyclare and Ballynure is being considered as part of this process.
