Question: To ask the Minister for Infrastructure to detail the amount paid out in claims to drivers whose vehicles have been damaged by potholes in each of the last five years, broken down by (i) motorways; (ii) A roads; and (iii) B roads.
Answer:
The management information my Department holds in relation to roads related public liability claims can be found online or via the at: https://www.infrastructure-ni.gov.uk/publications/road-asset-maintenance-directorate-management-information-roads-related-claims-period-20182019 Table 7.1 in the above link provides details of vehicle damage compensation paid during the last five full financial. Please note, however, the NICS accounting system does not record the road class for incidents that lead to compensation payments. Therefore, it is not possible to disaggregate the amount of compensation paid out by road class as requested. I would also advise the member and other members using the above link to be cognisant of the caveats noted in respect to the information provided on roads related public liability claims. The link to this information is also available via the Assembly Library.
