Question: To ask the Minister for Communities to detail the schemes his Department has been involved in with charities in East Londonderry that help dementia sufferers continue to socialise and mix with others outside their home.
Answer:
This issue is an operational matter for the Northern Ireland Housing Executive. I have sought the requested information from the Chief Executive, who has advised me as follows: “The Supporting People programme grant funds Floating Support provision that can help dementia sufferers continue to socialise and mix with others outside their home. 15 units of Floating Support in the Coleraine area are provided by a charity where the primary client group is ‘Older People with Mental Health Problems / Dementia’. This service is provided by Praxis Care – Coleraine Dementia SPFS 45. The following Floating Support services provided by charities were the primary client group ‘Older People’, can also support people affected by dementia. Radius Housing Association provide 560 units of floating support via Floating Support Larne, Carrickfergus and Newtownabbey in the Northern Health & Social Care Trust area. The Cedar Foundation provide 40 units of floating support via Elderly Floating Support Scheme, Moyle in the Moyle and Coleraine area. First Housing Aid & Support Services provide 60 units of Floating support via Floating Support Scheme for Older People Limavady/Derry/Strabane, in the Limavady/Derry/Strabane area. Praxis Care provide 77 units of Floating support via Foyle SPFS 43 in the Londonderry and Strabane area.” For any future queries relating to operational matters, you may wish to contact the Northern Ireland Housing Executive directly. Making direct contact with the ALB will ensure that you receive the information in the shortest possible timeframe and make best use of public resources.
