To ask the Minister of Health what steps he is taking to address the 47 funded but unfilled Specialist, Associate Specialist, and Specialty doctor posts, as outlined in the Northern Ireland Emergency Medicine Workforce Census 2024.

Answer:

My Department has engaged with the employing HSC Trusts who are unable to verify the status of the 47 vacancies referred to in the College’s Northern Ireland Emergency Medicine Workforce Census 2024.

The issue of ensuring a sufficient supply of medical professionals trained in the emergency medicine will be addressed in a forthcoming strategic workforce review for the Emergency Medicine specialty to be led by the Department.
