Question:
To ask the Minister for Infrastructure to detail his Department’s responsibilities to protect an existing road network, where a planning application has been approved and built, but with recommendations from the local planning office that steps be taken to mitigate anticipated negative impacts on the road network that were subsequently brought to fruition.

Answer:
DfI Roads is a statutory consultee to the planning process and provides advice to Council planning to enable progression of applications. When consulted by the planning authority, my department assesses the proposed development to determine its transport impact and how best to mitigate any adverse impacts on the road network.
Where applicable, my department will recommend conditions to be included as part of an approval. The planning authority is responsible for ensuring a Developer complies with any conditions recommended by the department.
