Question:
To ask the Minister of Finance for her assessment of the need for the Executive to establish multi-year budgets in the future.

Answer:

I have made clear to Executive colleagues, my desire to set a multi-year budget to allow departments to plan more effectively, however this is dependent on the period covered by the next Spending Review.

2024-25 is the last year of the current Spending Review period, and therefore the Executive can only develop a one year budget. I have pressed both the Chief Secretary to the Treasury and the shadow Secretary of State on the need for a multi-year settlement going forward.
