Question: To ask the Minister of Education to detail the number of children in schools that have a diagnosis of dyslexia.
Answer:
The 2023/24 School Census data collection has been impacted by industrial action. Although data has been received from all schools, for 25% of schools (across primary, post primary and special schools) it has not been possible to obtain pupil level information. This means that for these schools, pupil level information relating to special education need categories is not available. Figures from the 2022/23 school census data collection exercise recorded that there were 8,029 pupils who had a Special Educational Need recorded as Dyslexia or Specific Learning Difficulty - Language/Literacy.
