Question: To ask the Minister for Communities to detail the percentage of households currently registered as homeless who have cited domestic violence as an issue on their housing application, broken down by constituency.
Answer:
This issue is an operational matter for the Housing Executive and I have sought the requested information from the Chief Executive, who has advised me as follows: “The table below details homelessness acceptances during 2023/24 where the acceptance reason was domestic abuse. The table also details the overall number of acceptances and the percentage of acceptances due to domestic abuse as a percentage of overall acceptances. Council Area | Homelessness Acceptances due to domestic abuse | Total Homelessness Acceptances | Domestic abuse acceptances as a percentage of all acceptances | Antrim & Newtownabbey | 130 | 1013 | 12.8% | Ards & North Down | 115 | 1012 | 11.4% | Armagh, Banbridge & Craigavon | 85 | 749 | 11.3% | Belfast | 219 | 3226 | 6.8% | Causeway Coast & Glens | 109 | 842 | 12.9% | Derry & Strabane | 134 | 1352 | 9.6% | Fermanagh & Omagh | 49 | 501 | 9.8% | Lisburn & Castlereagh | 46 | 615 | 7.5% | Mid & East Antrim | 141 | 920 | 15.3% | Mid Ulster | 64 | 505 | 12.7% | Newry, Mourne & Down | 54 | 802 | 6.7% | Grand Total | 1146 | 11537 | 9.9%” |
