Question:
To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs to detail the steps he is taking to ensure prices that farmers receive for their produce ensures their sustainability.

Answer:
Farm prices are determined by the market and therefore outside the control of Government. My Department does provide considerable advice to farm businesses on matters of economic and environmental sustainability. The Department makes around £300m annually in direct payments which form a very significant proportion of farm income and play an important role in business sustainability.
