Question:
To ask the Minister for Communities to outline what support his Department can provide to grassroots sports clubs to become environmentally sustainable.

Answer:

Sport NI, an arm’s length body of my Department is currently working with thirty-five grassroots sports clubs which have been successful in securing National Lottery funding from Sport NI’s Renewable Energy Fund totalling over eighty thousand pounds. This is a pilot investment programme which seeks to help sports clubs become more environmentally sustainable.

In addition, Sport NI has issued an Environmental Sustainability Survey and an impact flooding survey to all Sports Clubs to establish the level of need in the sector. Responses to these surveys will inform plans to bring further support to sports clubs over the next five years including an Environmental Training Programme for Sports Clubs and a future Investment Fund.
