Question:
To ask the First Minister and deputy First Minister for an update on the review of the Race Relations Order, which was expected by summer 2024.

Answer:

A review of the current Race Relations (Northern Ireland) Order 1997 has been conducted as part of the Racial Equality Strategy 2015 - 2025, including a 12-week public consultation on possible changes which concluded in June 2023.

A report on the feedback and responses from the consultation will be published in the coming weeks, however all matters remain subject to Ministerial approval on policy direction. Our intention is to bring updated Race Relations legislation before the Assembly in the 2025-2026 Session. This will move us a step closer to providing the best possible legal protection against racism.
