Question:
To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs to detail (i) the amount of funding allocated to local councils' animal welfare departments, in each of the last five years; and (ii) the specific animal welfare training local council staff are given to undertake inspections of and issue licences for dog breeding establishments.

Answer:
Local councils operate a collaborative, regional approach to deliver animal welfare enforcement services. Funding allocated for each of the five regions for the last five years is provided in the table below.
Local councils, as autonomous bodies, are responsible for the deployment, training and continuous professional development of their staff who undertake inspections and issue licences for dog breeding establishments; my Department has no role.
