Question: To ask the Minister for Infrastructure to detail the number of wastewater treatment stations that have been recorded as being over capacity in each of the last five years.
Answer:
The management of public wastewater infrastructure is an operational matter for NI Water. However, I have sought the requested information from NI Water and have been advised as follows: The table below details the number of wastewater treatment works (WwTW), by size, that were recorded as being over capacity in each of the last five full calendar years . It also includes the number of wastewater treatment works that are over capacity in 2024, at 18 August 2024. | 2019 | 2020 | 2021 | 2022 | 2023 | 2024 (at 18/8/24) | WwTW treating less than 250 population equivalent | 382 | 382 | 382 | 385 | 384 | 383 | WwTW treating greater than 250 population equivalent | 82 | 83 | 82 | 84 | 74 | 71 | Total | 464 | 465 | 464 | 469 | 458 | 454 |
