To ask the Minister for the Economy for his assessment of the economic contribution of childminders.

Answer:

In my economic vision I set out the need to invest in affordable childcare and fair pay for childcare workers because I recognise the contribution of this sector to the local economy.

Registered childminders provide parents with a flexible childcare option allowing them to enter and remain in employment or pursue educational opportunities. This support is essential for maintaining parental workforce participation therefore stimulating economic activity.
