Question: To ask the Minister of Health to detail any assistance his Department provides to midwives who do not have a driving licence.
Answer:
I refer you to my answer to AQW 15536/22-27, which confirms that rotational or community midwifery roles do require a full driving licence. I note that the three current recruitment adverts for midwifery (within SEHSCT, WHSCT and the NHSCT) confirm this position, but also that the requirement can be waived for any applicant whose disability prohibits driving but has access to a form of transport approved by the Trust, which permits them to carry out the duties of the post. Any post-specific flexibilities or exceptions will be stated in recruitment advertisements and job specifications issued by Trusts.
