To ask the Minister for Communities how his Department is supporting the creation of new Business Improvement Districts.

Answer:

My Department has policy and legislation responsibility for Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) and works closely with local business groups, district councils and other stakeholders where there is interest in establishing a BID.

The cost of setting up a new BID is usually shared between the Department and the relevant district council; however, any support is dependent on budget availability at the time.

My officials have written to councils to gauge the level of interest in establishing new BIDs and will provide support and guidance as necessary.
