Question: To ask the Minister for Infrastructure to detail (i) all dates and times the Sydenham bypass will be closed to facilitate the recently announced road improvement scheme; and (ii) how he will ensure the closures are communicated to the public.
Answer:
The £3.8 million road resurfacing scheme on the city bound section of the Sydenham Bypass, Belfast is progressing with overnight and weekend closures in place until Monday 25 November. Weekend closures are taking place over the next seven consecutive weekends, commencing at 10pm Friday 11 October until 6am on Monday 14 October, between the Tillysburn junction and the start of the M3. Weeknight overnight closures are in operation for the duration of the scheme. Some weekend and overnight lane closures will also be required on the country bound lanes to ensure the safety of road workers and the travelling public. The majority of the scheme is expected to be completed ahead of the Christmas period during which the road will remain open. However, further closures may be required in the New Year. Electronic message signs have been in place on the A2 Sydenham Bypass for the last four weeks to advise road users in advance of the works.
