Question:
To ask the Minister for Infrastructure how long the current closure of Durham Street in Belfast city centre will impact on journey times for those who need to use their car during rush hour, for example to collect their children from different locations.

Answer:
I can advise that the current closure of Durham Street is programmed to last for 12 months and finish on the 12 October 2025. The closure is required to facilitate the provision of public realm works around the new Belfast Grand Central Station and the associated removal of the bridge.
I appreciate that this work is causing additional congestion to the road network and I acknowledge that traffic congestion in Belfast has been a significant concern for road users over the past number of months. I would encourage travellers to avoid traffic congestion by considering other sustainable and active modes of travel where possible such as public transport, using the park and ride sites or by walking or cycling. Encouraging use of alternative modes to access the city centre will help alleviate some congestion for those who essentially need to travel by private car.
