Question:
To ask the Minister of Education (i) why the Review of Grading in Modern Languages at GCSE and A-level has not been published since being commissioned in 2020; and (ii) when it will be published.

Answer:

The language reports submitted by the Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) are currently being reviewed by my Department. Officials are scoping the curriculum policy implications of these reports, as part of a wider approach to enhance and strengthen modern languages moving forward, in conjunction with CCEA colleagues. The aim is to recognise and promote the importance of languages and their place within the curriculum, and in doing so, attempt to address the decline in uptake at key stage 4 and post-16 levels.
