Question:
To ask the Minister of Education whether the current Review of the Northern Ireland Curriculum will consider a statutory requirement for schools to educate pupils on the dangers of gambling as part of the core curriculum.

Answer:
The review of the Northern Ireland curriculum, to be undertaken by Lucy Crehan, will make a series of policy recommendations regarding the purpose, design, specification and implementation of the Northern Ireland Curriculum. The review will commence shortly, therefore it is too soon to comment on priority areas of inquiry. It is unlikely that the final report will include detailed proposals on individual course/subject content.
Although not explicitly mentioned within the Northern Ireland Curriculum, gambling harm is addressed through teaching on gambling, gaming, and financial capability across several areas of the curriculum. At primary level this is considered within Personal Development and Mutual Understanding. At post-primary level this is taught within Learning for Life and Work.
