Question: To ask the Minister for Infrastructure whether work is scheduled to repair the uneven pavements in Moira town centre.
Answer:
My Department has been operating in a difficult financial environment for a number of years and this has had a significant impact on its ability to deliver essential services such as resurfacing and road maintenance. Resurfacing schemes are funded through my Department's Structural Maintenance allocation; however regrettably for some time the available investment has not kept pace with what is needed to maintain all our roads and footways in a reasonable condition. Whilst there are many roads and footways such as Main Street, Moira, that would benefit from investment, due to limited budget resources resurfacing work is taken forward through the prioritisation of those deemed most in need of intervention. Details of the planned list of resurfacing schemes for the 2024/25 financial year are included in my Department’s annual report to Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council which is scheduled to be delivered on 18 November 2024. My officials will continue to monitor the footways in Moira town centre and all defects meeting current intervention levels will be recorded for repair in line with current limited-service policy guidelines.
