Question:
To ask the First Minister and deputy First Minister for an update on the priorities of the Executive Insight and Strategy Unit.

Answer:

The Executive Insight and Strategy Unit (formerly known as the Economic Policy Unit) was formed in 2023 to develop a stronger understanding of our economic performance and international competitiveness, and to support policy development in the Department.

The unit has developed relevant socio-economic research on the Measuring the Missions, Competitiveness and modelling the impact of inclusion, while working with colleagues across the Executive and external stakeholders.

Since 5 August 2024, the Unit has also been responsible for providing Ministerial briefing and the economic appraisal of strategically important business cases.
