Question: To ask the Minister for Infrastructure to detail the number of prosecutions that have been instigated against drivers as a result of the introduction, in 2024, of calibrated sound meters to assist with the enforcement of noisy and nuisance vehicle noise emissions at the roadside, broken down by local council area where the offence took place.
Answer:
The following table details the number of prosecutions, broken down by council area, that have been instigated against drivers in 2024 for noise emission readings in excess of 104 decibels (dB). Local Council Area | Number of Prosecutions | Fermanagh and Omagh | 2 | Ards and North Down | 1 | Newry and Mourne | 1 |
In addition, 14 Fixed Penalty Notices were issued to drivers in lieu of prosecution for noise emission readings that were in excess of 99 dB but not greater than 104 dB. The following table shows these broken down by council area. Local Council Area | Number of Fixed Penalty Notices | Causeway Coast and Glens | 3 | Ards and North Down | 3 | Newry and Mourne | 3 | Armagh Banbridge and Craigavon | 5 |
