Question: To ask the Minister for Infrastructure (i) why the fixed cycle lane separators on Upper Arthur Street, Belfast, were removed; and (ii) whether he has any plans to reinstate them to improve safety for cyclists.
Answer:
My Department has not instructed the removal of cycling infrastructure from Upper Arthur Street, Belfast. The cycling wands in Upper Arthur Street are however vulnerable to vehicle damage, particularly where vehicles drive over the wands causing them to split and fall apart. Officials are currently liaising with our external contractor regarding the programming of works to reinstate the missing cycling infrastructure.
