Question: To ask the Minister of Education to detail any education on homelessness that is included in the Northern Ireland curriculum.
Answer:
While homelessness is not explicitly outlined in the Northern Ireland curriculum, it can be addressed through various subjects and areas of learning. For example, through the Human Rights and Social Responsibility, Equality and Social Justice strands of Learning for Life and Work, students investigate how and why some people may experience inequality and social exclusion on the basis of their material circumstances in both local and global contexts. This provides opportunities to discuss homelessness as a societal issue. The Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment have also produced useful online resources covering the topic of homelessness for Key Stages 1- 4.
