Question: To ask the Minister for Communities, as part of the Review of the Housing Selection Scheme, to detail any consideration he is giving to ensure that the system adequately acknowledges the increased risk of homelessness for care leavers and awards housing points to this vulnerable group accordingly.
Answer:
The fundamental review of social housing allocations made twenty proposals, which are now in the process of being considered and implemented. The review was intended to produce five key outcomes, including: that those in greatest housing need receive priority, with recognition of their time in need; and that there is an improved system for the most vulnerable applicants. I will consider the Housing Executive’s proposals for amendments to the Selection Scheme in line with the intended outcomes of the review
