To ask the Minister of Justice to detail (i) whether she has any plans to publish the report by Judge Burgess on the fundamental review of criminal legal aid in Northern Ireland; (ii) the recommendations in the report; (iii) the recommendations she has accepted and agreed to take forward; and (iv) the recommendations she does not accept or will not fully implement.

Answer:

The Report of the Fundamental Review of Criminal Legal Aid was published on 2 December 2024 alongside a summary of the Department’s analysis and proposed approach to recommendations. Summaries of the other evidence which informed decisions on the Enabling Access to Justice Reform Programme was also published on 2 December.
