Question:
To ask the Minister for Infrastructure whether Translink is exploring the introduction of batteries to retrofit existing trains on the network to reduce both carbon emissions and fuel costs.

Answer:

The current Translink railway fleet is not suitable to facilitate a battery retrofit to the vehicles. However, Translink have informed me that all new trains purchased in the coming years will encompass battery and/or electric propulsion technology.
