Question:
To ask the Minister of Education whether TNC2011/2 Policy Statement on Tackling Violence and Abusive Behaviour against Teachers has been implemented.

Answer:

TNC 2011/2 Policy Statement on Tackling Violence and Abusive Behaviour against Teachers was agreed through the Teachers’ Negotiating Committee (TNC) in 2011 and was issued to all schools. It is also published on the Department’s web site.

As you are aware the Department of Education (DE) is not the employer of teachers. Teachers are employed by the Board of Governors for each school setting, with human resource matters carried out in consultation with the relevant employing authority.

The Education Authority and CCMS, along with the other sectoral bodies, are in the process of finalising Violence at Work Policy and Guidance in consultation with Trade Unions. It is anticipated that the policy and guidance will be issued in February 2025.
