Question:
To ask the Minister of Health (i) for his assessment of the proposal to transfer Emergency General Surgery (EGS) from Causeway Hospital to Antrim Area Hospital, given the challenges presenting in Emergency Departments; and (ii) how he is reassuring patients that require EGS in this context.

Answer:

The Northern HSC Trust held a public consultation on proposals to reconfigure general surgery services between 23 August and 29 November 2024.

The Trust is currently preparing a consultation outcomes report which will be submitted to the Department of Health in due course, and will consider all likely impacts of proposals.

I will consider any recommendation made by the NHSCT at this time.
