Question:
To ask the Minister of Education to detail any engagement he has had with the Minister of Health in relation to establishing multi-disciplinary teams to support schools to meet the needs of special educational needs learners.

Answer:

The move to Local Impact Team (LITs) is phase one of the Education Authority’s (EA) proposed Transformation Programme. Further work to develop the model is ongoing to ensure alignment with health services.

My department, along with the EA, has established governance and oversight structures that will provide strategic direction, guidance and subject matter expertise. The Department of Health (DoH) are included within these structures. Officials have been working closely together and, as the model evolves, will seek ways to further strengthen collaboration, information sharing and joined up delivery of Special Educational Needs/Disability (SEND) supports.
