Question:
To ask the Minister for Infrastructure to detail (i) the plans for The Open at Royal Portrush Golf Club in relation to transport and roads closures; and (ii) any events his Department is planning to inform key stakeholders, including local businesses, to enable them to prepare in advance.

Answer:

The 2025 Open Golf championship at Royal Portrush is organised by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club (R&A), and as such they are responsible for all aspects of the event, including ensuring an agreed Traffic and Transport Plan is in place. I can confirm that Departmental officials have been working as part of a large multi-disciplinary team preparing for the delivery the 153rd Open at Royal Portrush.

I am advised that the Traffic & Transport Plan is currently in the final stages of preparation and details of travel arrangements for the event and associated traffic restrictions will be publicised in due course.

I understand a presentation on the event was made to Portrush Town Forum on the 20th January, an official drop-in event is planned for Portrush Town Hall on the 19th February from 12.00 to 18.00 and a webinar on the 25th February from 14.00 to 15.30, and my officials will be in attendance.
