To ask the Minister of Education why £3.6 million capital funding for Fresh Start projects has been returned.

Answer:

All remaining Fresh Start funding available to my Department relates to projects that are currently in construction. Unfortunately, as is the case in many construction projects, some minor delays have been encountered in several of the Fresh Start projects.

As a result, the anticipated Fresh Start expenditure required for the 2024-25 year has reduced by £3.4m to £58.1m. I expect any underspend will be carried forward and made available for Fresh Start projects in the 2025-26 financial year.
