Question: To ask the First Minister and deputy First Minister to detail any steps their Department took during 2024 to implement the Independent Reporting Commission recommendations on providing resources to end paramilitarism.
Answer:
We welcome the Independent Reporting Commission’s sixth report and positive comments in relation to the impact the Communities in Transition (CIT) programme, led by our Department, is having on ending paramilitarism. Under the Executive’s Programme for Paramilitarism and Organised Crime CIT was awarded £2.3m for the year 2024/25 which was supplemented in year by a further £1.5m from monitoring rounds following a bid from our Department. As a result, CIT is delivering 29 projects worth £3.8m across a range of issues in 8 designated areas.
