Question:
To ask the Minister for Infrastructure to detail any mechanisms in place for GPs to contact Driver and Vehicle Agency medical advisors.

Answer:
The Driver and Vehicle Agency (DVA) does not provide a service which permits GPs direct access to DVA medical advisors.
DVA may request medical information from various medical professionals to support the assessment of a driver or driving licence applicant’s fitness to drive and provide this information to their medical advisors as appropriate. The requests for and the provision of this information is done by post.
Where there is a concern around an individual’s fitness to drive, anyone, including medical professionals, can report such concerns to the DVA. The DVA will investigate these reports and if required refer these to their medical advisors for assessment.
