Question:
To ask the Minister of Justice for an update on the redevelopment of HMP Magilligan.

Answer:

The Northern Ireland Prison Service (NIPS) is continuing to progress business cases for a new kitchen and café plus a 60 cell wing at Magilligan. The Outline Business Case 1 for the kitchen and café is currently being considered as part of the approval process, with the business case for the 60 Cell wing at an early stage.

In addition to these projects, NIPS has developed a masterplan for the wider Magilligan site to determine the location of a new Welcome and Visits Centre, Independent living Units, a new Energy Centre and an Administration/Emergency Control Room building.

The progression of these projects will support continued efforts by NIPS to provide an efficient, effective, modern and affordable service which is focused on the development of staff and the rehabilitation of people in its custody.
