Question: To ask the Minister of Education to detail any consideration his Department has given to raising the age that the Department of Education has legal responsibility for children with special educational needs to 25, similar to the current position taken by England.
Answer:
Work is on-going within my Department to scope legislation within this Assembly mandate to require young people to continue their education or training until they are age 18. My officials are currently engaging with stakeholders including officials from the Department for the Economy on the wide range of issues associated with the proposed legislation including those which may impact on children with special educational needs.
