Question:
To ask the Minister of Health to detail any work his Department has carried out to address patient ageism across the healthcare system.

Answer:

Section 75 of the Northern Ireland Act 1998 requires that public authorities, in carrying out their functions relating to Northern Ireland, should have due regard to the need to promote equality of opportunity between persons of different age.

The Department undertakes an Audit of Inequalities exercise to identify systemic inequalities across the nine Section 75 Categories to inform the development of its Equality Action Plan which is currently under review. Any issues or concerns in respect of the operational provision of Health & Social Care services should be addressed to the relevant service provider in the first instance
