Question:
To ask the Minister for Infrastructure whether her Department will install a filter light for cars turning from Main Street, Moira, onto Meeting Street.

Answer:
When considering traffic signalling arrangements, there needs to be a balanced approach to both the differing traffic movements at any given junction and also the competing pedestrian demands whilst minimising congestion and maintaining road safety. Any change to a signalling needs to consider the impact on this balance.
Officials within my Department have reviewed the current traffic signalling arrangements at Main Street, Moira and consider that the current volume of right turning traffic is adequately managed within the present traffic signalling arrangement. The extra time required for the additional stages needed to facilitate a right turn filter lane would create unnecessary delays to this junction, causing increased congestion in Moira Village.
