Question: To ask the Minister for Infrastructure (i) whether her Department monitors the level of heavy good vehicles passing through (a) Moira; and (b) Hillsborough; and (ii) how this impacts the requirement for road repairs.
Answer:
My Department does not specifically monitor the level of heavy goods vehicles passing through Moira Village. Officials have commissioned an assessment of the suitability of alternative routes within Royal Hillsborough following a request for a weight limit restriction to be introduced in the whole village, including Carnreagh. This work is nearing completion and, as part of the assessment, surveys of heavy goods vehicle movements have been undertaken. A final report on the findings will be available in the coming months. The footways and carriageways in Royal Hillsborough and Moira are inspected on a routine cyclical basis and any defects identified are noted and passed to the contractor for repair in accordance with my Department’s current maintenance policy.
