Question:
To ask the Minister for Infrastructure for an update on the business case for the Lurgan signalling improvement project.

Answer:

The signalling system in the Lurgan area is approaching the end of its serviceable life. Consequently, in March 2025 Translink submitted a revised Outline Business Case for a new signalling project for the Lurgan area to my Department. This is currently being assessed by my officials and will commence following the necessary approvals and the availability of funding. The new signalling system would reduce the impact of the crossing closure times across the three level crossings in Lurgan, as well reducing the likelihood of public misuse at the crossings. It could also facilitate more and faster train services on this line.
