Question:
To ask the Minister of Health whether Protect Life 2 will be updated to reflect the socio-economic drivers of suicide, as outlined in the March 2025 Samaritans report Lost Futures.

Answer:

The Protect Life 2 Strategy is not currently being updated however it has been extended until 2027. The new Action Plan and Implementation Plan will continue to target resources towards areas where there is greatest need. The Executive Working Group on Mental Wellbeing, Resilience and Suicide Prevention met on 3 April and agreed the content of the Plans, subject to funding. The cross departmental actions will help to address a range of socio-economic drivers of suicide. The plans are being designed and will be published shortly.
