Question: To ask the First Minister and deputy First Minister for an update on the work of the Truth Recovery Independent Panel.
Answer:
The work of the Truth Recovery Independent Panel is the first stage of an integrated truth investigation into Mother and Baby Institutions, Magdalene Laundries and Workhouses. Its findings are vital to inform the forthcoming statutory public inquiry. This innovative approach was recommended by the Truth Recovery Design Panel following consultation with victims and survivors. It is intended to provide a meaningful choice for those affected, on how they wish to have their experience included in the process. More than 100 people have already shared their testimony with the Panel, and a communications campaign is under way to encourage others who wish to share their experiences to come forward before 1st May. The Panel has also been working with PRONI and has identified over 4,500 archival records and has agreement to digitise more than 3,000 records. We met with the co-chairs of the Panel in November and were pleased to note the significant progress made to date. We are committed to supporting this process and those affected and look forward to the Panel’s report later this year.
